You have a lot of waste to dispose of and ideally you’d like a skip to make the job easier. But you don’t have a convenient space such as a driveway where you leave the skip while you fill it. What can you do?
The road outside your house might be an option – but only if you have permission from your local council in the form of a skip licence. In many cases this is a straightforward procedure that Wellington Waste will handle for you. We’ll then add the cost of the permit to your invoice.
How Much Does a Skip Permit Cost?
Costs vary depending on where you live and how long you’ll need the skip. The standard permit lasts 28 days and 10 days notice is usually needed.
Wellington Waste will be happy to advise you. If you can, it’s sometimes helpful to collect your waste in one place before the skip arrives so you can load it straight in and minimise the time that the skip is in position.
We’ll apply for your skip permit by contacting your local council by phone and then filling out an online form.
Restrictions
Even if you have a permit you won’t be able to place a skip where it would block pavements, entrances to properties or utility access points.
Skips shouldn’t be placed within 15 metres of a junction (even if people are in the habit of parking there). And if the skip is on yellow lines or in a pay and display bay, you may need to apply for parking suspension.
Safety First
Skips placed on public roads must follow strict safety regulations. Depending on the location, safety measures could include parking cones, reflectors and nighttime safety lamps. The name and phone number of the hiring company must also be displayed.
Ultimately you have a responsibility to ensure your skip is located safely and in accordance with the regulations. You could face a fine if you don’t do this.
The best way to ensure you comply with the rules is to use a reputable skip hire company. Call Wellington Waste and we’ll be happy to advise you.
