Looking After Your Skip
When hiring a skip, it’s important to bear in mind that other people may be tempted to use it to get rid of their own rubbish. If you don’t take any precautions and someone does put their rubbish in your skip, it can be difficult to prove it’s not yours.
To avoid this happening, it is a good idea to think about where you’re going to place your skip. If you have an area away from public access that’s suitable, it will reduce the risk of passers-by being tempted to throw rubbish in. If not, you might want to cover your skip with a tarpaulin when you’re not using it.
Packing Your Skip Correctly
When you receive your skip, it can be tempting to fill the skip as quickly as possible without considering how you arrange the items, which is likely to result in an inefficiently loaded skip. To get the best value for money for your skip hire, it’s important to load the skip methodically. The lighter, larger items should go in first followed by the heavier items on top as these will help to compact the waste beneath. You should also make sure to dismantle and flatten any items before you put them in the skip as this will save a lot of space.
Certain items are classed as hazardous and cannot be placed in a normal skip. These include asbestos, plasterboard, paint, tyres, gas bottles, fluorescent tubes, light bulbs, freezers & fridges, vehicle batteries, oil and chemicals. If you need to get rid of any of these items please contact us for further advice and assistance.
